What's This?

One of the goals of the Airdrie Flying Club is to promote aviation within our community. One of the most successful ways is to promote flying amongst the youth; they gain an understanding of what makes an airplane fly, what's involved with becoming a pilot, and most importantly, experiencing a flight in a small airplane first hand.

In previous years, the AFC, and its predecessor, ACCOTA participated in the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA)'s Young Eagles program. Founded by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in 1992 as a means to introduce young people, ages 8-17 to the joy of flight with the opportunity to fly a real plane. Offered free of charge, the success of the Young Eagles program is due to the generosity of pilots around the world. The lofty goal of flying 1-million Young Eagles before celebrating the 100 years of manned powered flight on December 3, 2003 was met with huge success.

Introducing youth to aviation

To date, AFC members have introduced 71 teens and pre-teens to aviation.

We're always looking for an excuse to give kids their first flight. We welcome you to contact the AFC if you think your child, grandchild or children's group qualifies. Interested in a Eagle flight? Send an email to:

Linden Young Eagles - October 14, 2006

Saturday might have been a chilly day but it was a huge success for local aviation. Thanks to the Linden Fire/Rescue Squad, their team of volunteers and 15 pilots, 110 local children were given Young Eagles flights. ACCOTA members Daryl Medd, Stan Peters and Barry Wood flew a combined 23 children.
